Health Information Management

Three tools are provided in SATMED for data collection and analysis:

These tools provide a wide spectrum of options for data collection and analysis since they are differentiated in terms of overall complexity, data acquisition mechanisms and statistics features.

DHIS2

The Distric Health Information system (DHIS) allows users to collect and manage health related data for several different objectives. It allows users, among others, to (a) monitor and survey their work, (b) create patient registries, (c) perform surveys and (d) conduct health studies. The DHIS2, the updated version, has been integrated into SATMED for use by a large international community in many different projects worldwide. The solution covers aggregated routine data, semi-permanent data (staffing, equipment, infrastructure, population estimates), survey/audit data and certain types of case-based or patient-based data (for instance, disease notification or patient satisfaction surveys).

Key features

  • Create data entry forms for:
    • collecting  medical data and
    • analysing the collected data
  • Can be used on personal computers and mobile devices
  • Can be combined with SMS messaging

RapidPro

RapidPro is a free and open source platform developed to create and manage SMS messaging workflows that use a two-way messaging approach to collect and analyze data in real-time. RapidPro provides an intuitive  design suite for the definition of a messaging logic flow that includes a sequence of conditional questions and answers aimed to collect the required information from the patient. For the In-field data collection and analyses, the patients are  directly reached on their mobile phones by a simple automatic flow of conditional  text questions.  It allows users to easily design and manage services that connect directly with mobile phone users without the support of qualified professionals. RapidPro is being used in more than 25 countries (about half a million end users) and has been employed in different challenging environments. It can be used for providing standard emergency forms to field response teams or to facilitate communication between clinics and community health workers It can be also used as a health information management system for a period of time, for example, for managing disease outbreaks.

Key features

  • User-friendly interface for building mobile services
  • Automatic pre-defined chat with mobile phone users (just one or millions) using SMS
  • Analyse and manage data moments after it was collected
